SAMMY'S SPENDING SPREE Will C, 08/09/11
It's a well-known fact that footballers earn a lucrative amount of money in the modern game. Even a lower league player can earn a six figure salary for playing their beloved sport. However, not many earn as much as Anzhi Makhachkala's new signing Samuel Eto'o. In fact the Cameroon striker is now the highest paid player in the world after signing a staggering £350,000 a week contract with the Russian Premier League side.
To many, this amount of money is completely unimaginable and even Eto’o himself will struggle to come up with ways in which to spend his fortune. So here on Fresh Air Football, we thought we’d give the confused Cameroonian a bit of help.

ARSENE AMNESIA: ARE SOME PEOPLE THAT FORGETFUL? Nick, 01/09/11
Since the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and Samir Nasri to the Etihad corporation's Manchester branch, and the subsequent lacklustre performances, people have been quick to get on poor Arsène Wenger's back. Do they forget the unbeaten season? Do they forget the nurture of rare talents like Vieira, Henry and Ashley Cole as well as Cesc and Samir? They must have forgotten the way legends such as Bergkamp, Overmars, Ljungberg and Pires tore defences apart and the way Campbell and Toure formed the unbreakable core of 'The Invincibles'. Off the pitch too Wenger is capable of changing lives, let alone football matches. He was able to get the best out of a young Nicolas Anelka, tame troublesome Ray Parlour and famously his arrival was hugely influential in helping Tony Adams overcome his alcoholism.
Wenger has been one of the Premier League's greatest assets since it's formation. He has spent 15 years at Arsenal and has treated us to the best style of football of any other team. He has made teams from scratch and brought players from nowhere to stardom. He even adds a touch of comedy, intentionally or not, with his petty claims, stubborn interviews and extremely red-tainted vision.

ANFIELD FOOD FOR THOUGHT Andrew, 30/08/11
So, we’re a couple of games into the 38-game sprint that is a Premier League season. It’s the time of the year when as a Liverpool fan I should try to be optimistic, even more so after a Transfer Window of indulgence and a win at the Emirates.
As a Liverpool disciple, it seems that the new owners are trying to feed the 45 000 Anfield capacity, and us less fortunate yet highly passionate pub followers, with ample amounts of overpriced prospects such as Henderson and Carroll alongside the experienced, yet again seemingly inflated reputations of Downing and Adam.

REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE - A GUIDE TO A GREENER TRANSFER WINDOW Nick, 10/08/11
Around the country there are perfectly good footballers lying disused. Many of the superpowers in world football are choosing not to reinstate those who were once prolific; instead opting for a shiny new Aguero or chasing the top of the range Sneijder. The fact is the world cannot continue like this. Quality footballers are not a wholly renewable source. They cannot remain clogging up the benches and corporate boxes of football stadiums around the country. Something must be done. Fresh Air Football investigates the barons behind the destruction of many of world football's greatest resources and highlights those who are able to make a change.
There are many examples of where recycling could be implemented effectively for a greener transfer window. First we travel to Manchester to investigate the case of Shaun Wright-Phillips and his neglect at the hands of Roberto Mancini, a criminal of the green footballing world. Wright-Phillips is a footballer who once tore apart defences. He was a sharp blade. However, following his move to Chelsea he soon blunted.

TRANSFERS, TANTRUMS AND PLENTY OF MONEY Will, 08/08/11
Oh the transfer window. The summer saviour for football fans who have nothing better to do than discuss the ins and outs of the beautiful game. From the moment the big hand forces it open, rumours begin faster than Sepp Blatter can say "goal-line technology." In fact transfer speculation and rumours are present all year round, but only in the illustrious window of opportunity can teams splash the cash and act upon any potential investments.
The summer window of 2011 has seen a few trends. The first is of course the multi-millions that have been spent in Europe's top leagues; from Barcelona snapping up Sanchez, to Manchester City's signing of Sergio Aguero, the recession has shown no signs of affecting football's elite.

TWITTER: BUILDING BRIDGES BETWEEN FANS AND PLAYERS Greg, 19/06/11
RVP's latest Tweet
This season has seen the rise of a new #movement – the Tweeting footballer. The social network site has taken off in recent years, and is now used by companies, celebrities and us normal people as a way of letting all of our 'followers' know just what we are doing and thinking in 140 magic characters. However, players have managed to get themselves into Twitter trouble this year, by criticising referees, fans or their own clubs, revealing team news earlier than they should and posting inappropriate photographs (amongst other things). Some managers such as 'Arry Redknapp would prefer their players to stay away from such sites, but having just downloaded the official Rio Ferdinand App, it's safe to say we are not in that camp. So just what are the benefits of footballer's Tweeting? Is it good for the game or are Redknapp and Ferguson right?
In days gone by, and as recently as ten or fifteen years ago, a kid could stand outside the stadium on a match day or at the training ground through the week and wait for an autograph.

SCOTT PARKER'S LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Nick, 08/06/11
Today we join Kirstie and Phil who are trying to help Scott up-size from his current East London abode. Scott has just got too big for the property. He is looking in the direction of a more plush and upmarket location where his slick comb over and polished black boots will be accepted. He harbours complaints of rowdy neighbours, Robert who is always making a clumsy racket dropping things and Demba who holds weekly fight club meets with autograph hunters. Despite the new Landlord 'Big Sam' coming in and promising to renovate the property within the year, Scott is sure he can live in luxury elsewhere.
